Fire Marshal’s Office

The Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO) is the division of Walker County ESD2 that manages public education, fire and building code enforcement, and investigation of all fire causes. Specific responsibilities, pertaining to these functions, include

  • Design and delivery of public relations and public education programs.
  • Public Information
  • Periodic fire and life safety inspection of existing commercial and public buildings.
  • Pre-development review of new residential subdivisions and commercial developments.
  • New construction plan review and inspections for public and commercial buildings, including multi-family construction.
  • Fire origin and cause investigation.

Adopted Codes & Standards

The ESD Fire Marshal or his designee reviews plans and performs inspections to confirm compliance with the adopted District Fire Code and other local, state, and federal requirements.   Walker County ESD# 2 has adopted the 2021 International Fire Code (IFC) and Appendices as the District Fire Code.  The District FIre Code includes the latest edition of any NFPA Codes and Standards referenced in the adopted fire code.
 

Walker County ESD #2 has specifically adopted NFPA 291 (Recommended Practice for Fire Flow Testing and Marking of Hydrants) as the standard for the testing and marking of fire hydrants within the boundaries of the ESD.  

Emergency Building and Gate Access

Walker County ESD2 provides information and assistance in helping you obtain your Knox Box and Regional Locks for your business, residence or gates. Knox Boxes are installed to be accessed by WCESD2 personnel and are designed to give access to fire alarm panels, sprinkler risers, and other critical systems within the building.  To order a Knox key Box go to https://www.knoxbox.com/houston-tx-msa  and choose Walker Co Emerg Svcs Dist #2 as your local fire department agency.

The County gate access program will allow First Responders to access gates during an emergency.

Walker County ESD2 has Gate padlocks for manual gates for $166 and key switches for electric gates for $172 on hand at Station 71.  We accept checks made out to Walker County ESD2 or Cash.

Please make sure you have all information on where the illegal burning is taking place.

Nature of Complaint

      • Illegal Burning (Burning of garbage or rubbish on less than 5 acres or within a subdivision)
      • Nuisance Conditions (Outdoor burning of small limbs/leaves where smoke affects a sensitive receptor)
      • Code Violation (Occupancy, Life Safety, No Permit)
      • Fire Hazard (Visible Fire/Safety hazards)

Describe violation – include specific details such as time of day, what are they burning, what the hazard is.

**A person commits a Class B Misdemeanor if, a false report with intent to deceive or knowingly make a false statement material to a criminal investigation to; A Peace Officer conducting the investigation or; Any employee of a Law Enforcement Agency.
